The whole number
Dabble's own pricing page lists its Writer plan at $19 a month billed monthly, with 20% off annual billing and a $699 Lifetime Author Access alongside (checked 28 August 2026). Four years of the monthly plan, the low end of what a first novel takes, is $912. A ChapterMuse Studio licence, the top tier, is £48 once including UK VAT. If you are weighing a Dabble alternative without a rolling bill, that is the whole sum you are weighing.
The catch in Dabble's pitch
Automatic sync means somebody else's server gets the final word.
Dabble makes moving between devices convenient by making the cloud central to the workflow. That convenience comes bundled with an account, a service dependency and a business relationship that has to remain in place around your manuscript. ChapterMuse makes the opposite decision: the authoritative book is on your machine, the app works with the network off, and the complete project leaves as one .muse file you control. You do not rent access to your writing desk, and your novel does not need permission from a server to exist.
