ChapterMuse Guide

Getting Around

A quick map of the chrome — how you move between books, worlds, and tools without losing your place.

Updated

ChapterMuse keeps navigation quiet and consistent. A slim title bar sits at the very top of the window; the ChapterMuse wordmark there is also the app menu. Inside a book, three small menus on the right — Story, Manuscript, and Review — gather every panel and tool by what you're doing. And many panels can pop out into their own window.

The Title Bar

  • The ChapterMuse wordmark opens the app menu — jump to Story World, Manuscripts, Characters, Locations, Factions, Items, Universes, Museiki, Gallery, Research, and Export
  • A Search button opens Story Recall to find anything across your whole project (Ctrl S)
  • Pinned books appear as quick-links, so a book you're living in is always one click away
  • Standard window controls (minimise, maximise, close) sit at the far right, and the whole strip is draggable to move the window

The Three In-Book Menus

Open a book and three round buttons appear at the top-right. Each gathers a related set of panels, so you always know where to look.

  • Story — your world: Characters, Profiles, Connections, Locations, Factions, Items, plus Plot Grid, Chronos, Mind Map, and Scene Designer
  • Manuscript — working with the text: Search, Find & Replace, Glossary & Name Links, Snippets, and Research
  • Review — feedback on your writing: Chapter Check, Chapter Analysis, Chapter Pulse, Prose Metrics, Word Cloud, Manuscript Lens, Podcast, and Read aloud

The Tools Strip & Chapter Drawer

  • A central Tools strip holds Read / Edit / Focus mode, To-dos, Chapter Notes, the Outliner button, the workspace-view picker, your type controls (font, size, spacing), bold / italic / em dash, copy & paste, a "highlight story-world names" toggle, a live word count, undo / redo, Chapter History, Revision Passes, and Targets & Writing History
  • The chapter drawer (left) is quick structural navigation; the Outliner is the persistent planning panel for chapters, scenes, intentions, and linked material
  • Your avatar (top-right) opens Theme & Page, Background Zen, your Credits balance, Settings, and Sign out

Podcast

Open Podcast from the Review menu to hear Miles and Milly discuss either a chapter or the wider Story World. Every episode for the current book appears together in one newest-first library—there are no separate source tabs. Story World episodes carry their own world-map artwork, so they remain easy to recognise at a glance.

  • Create episode opens on Chapter by default, with Chapter and Story World as the first choice
  • The chapter picker appears only for a Chapter episode and defaults to the chapter you are reading
  • Chapter and Story World recordings stay together, with the newest episode first

Pop-Out Windows

The panels in the Story menu — Characters, Profiles, Connections, Locations, Factions, Items, Plot Grid, Chronos, Scene Designer, and Mind Map — can each detach into their own window, so you can work on your world side-by-side with your manuscript. Hover a menu row and choose Open in a new window; close the pop-out and it slots neatly back into the editor.

Pin a book from the chapter drawer to add it to the title-bar quick-links — perfect for the manuscript you're focused on this month. Prefer the keyboard? Press Ctrl K to open the command palette and run any of these from one place — see Command Palette & Shortcuts.
