Every manuscript you've started, shown as covers you can open with a click.

The Bookshelf is where your writing begins. Each book appears as a cover with its stage and when you last touched it. Hover a cover and it opens like a real book to show the first few lines of your story. Click it to drop straight into the writing canvas.

  2. 2Click the "Add new book" tile and give your book a title and genre.
  3. 3Open the new book and choose a blank first chapter or review and import an existing manuscript.
  4. 4Use the universe filter chips to browse books by continuity.

Your Books

  • Each cover shows the title, cover art, stage (Draft / Revised / Final), and last-updated date
  • Hover a cover to preview the opening lines of the book
  • Books group into bands by universe; standalone books collect at the end
  • Filter by universe with the chip row above the grid

Creating & Managing Books

  • Add a book from the dashed "Add new book" tile — title and genre are all you need
  • Open a book's Settings (⋮ on the cover) to change title, genre, cover tone or image, and stage
  • A book's stage is derived from its chapters' stages, weighted by how much prose sits in each
  • Delete a book from its menu — a phrase-gated confirmation guards against accidents
  • Create a book directly into a universe using the + on that universe's filter chip

Importing an Existing Manuscript

  • Import Word (DOCX), Markdown, plain text, EPUB, Rich Text Format (RTF), or OpenDocument Text (ODT)
  • ChapterMuse detects the real format from the file contents, even when the extension is missing or misleading
  • Review the detected format, title, author, section count, paragraph count, word count, and any fidelity warnings before saving
  • Headings and familiar labels become chapters, prologues, epilogues, and other book sections; paragraphs, bold, italic, reading order, and scene breaks are preserved where available
  • Importing into an existing book adds sections without deleting writing or intentional empty planning chapters
  • For a Scrivener project, export the manuscript from Scrivener as DOCX, then import that portable document

Covers can be a simple colour tone or your own uploaded artwork. A distinctive cover makes a full shelf far easier to scan at a glance.
