not gonna lie, i nearly did it tonight. priya's idea about the menu has been in my head all week and on my break i opened a new doc and started chapter one again with the menu in it from the start.

wrote 400 words. they were pretty good. then i closed it. then i opened it again. it's still open on my phone now

i'm on 18,500 on the actual book. i don't know what to do

  1. Close it, Samir. You have 18,500 words. Do not throw them away for 400.

  2. Sorry, this is partly my fault for going on about the menu idea.

Could you just write it down as a note for the second draft and keep going with the book you've got?

  4. Fair enough. Sorry.

@inkandmonsoon sorry about last night, i was tired and that was out of order. you were only trying to help.

also i worked something out on my break. there's already a handwritten menu on the wall in the restaurant in chapter one, from 1979. so the djinn can already be tied to it, i just haven't revealed it yet. so i don't need to restart at all.

deleted the new doc. 450 words on the real one tonight

  6. No need to apologise, I was overdoing it. And that's a much better way to do it than mine. Really glad you're not restarting.

What this place is

The forum is free, the writing studio is the reason it exists

ChapterMuse is a desktop app for writing novels. Not a folder of documents and not a browser tab: one room holding the plan, the cast, the places, the research, the draft, the revision history and the finished files, all of it on your own computer. Rename a character in chapter one and the profiles, the prose and the exports follow.

It runs on Windows and macOS, works with the network off, and is bought once rather than rented: £24, £36 or £48 for a lifetime licence. AI runs on credits you only buy if you use them.

Your book is a file on your own machine. Nothing to renew, no outage that can reach your draft, and it still opens if we disappear.

30 days, everything unlocked, no card.
