My trial ends in October: which licence?

Good morning all. The little badge in my Settings says I have 18 days left of my free trial, so it finishes in early October, and I would like to decide before then rather than in a flap on the last day.

There are three kinds of licence and I have read the page twice. I am writing one book, a village mystery, possibly a second if this one behaves itself. I don't use the AI much, only Muse now and again when I'm stuck on who knew what.

Which would you choose in my shoes? And what happens to my 40,000 words if I haven't decided in time? I lost a chapter once before and I am not keen to repeat the experience.

    Morning Maggie. Your words are safe either way. If the trial runs out before you buy, the app goes read-only: you can still open your books, read them and export them, you just can't edit until a licence unlocks it.

    It's a one-off payment, not a subscription. For one or two books I'd look at Light (£24), which covers three books. The pricing page sets out what's in each: https://www.chaptermuse.com/pricing

    One tip: once you've bought it, download the licence file from your account page on the website and keep it with your backups.

    The AI isn't what you're paying for with the licence. Muse runs on credits, bought separately in packs. So pick the tier for the tools you use, not for Muse.

    I went Studio because I live in Chronos to keep my timelines straight. You'd not need that for a village mystery unless you find you do. Watch what you actually reach for this fortnight and buy for that.

    Adding to Colm's point, because it caught me out: if you've been using the Research Center or Revision Passes during the trial, those are in Writer (£36), not Light. Worth ten minutes clicking round this week to see which menus you really open. If it's mostly the writing page, the Outliner and the odd question to Muse, Light covers you.

    Thank you all, that is a weight off my mind. Read-only I could live with for a day or two if I'm slow, but I shan't be. Light, I think. I have written 'download the licence file' on an index card and propped it by the computer.

    @colm_reddan I don't know what Chronos is and I've decided to keep it that way for now.
