week three!!

last week: ch 12–22, pacing. cut 2,900 words. turned a love triangle into a misunderstanding, which is honestly all it was

this week: ch 23–34, the ending. the part i've rewritten most and still don't trust

also i finished that debut with the moonlight girl i was worrying about. it's really good. i'm fine about it. mostly

  1. it's ok to feel weird about it even if it's good

  2. Honestly two books with a similar idea isn't a bad thing. Shops and readers like having more of something they enjoyed.

Doing a pass on chapter 6. Cut the three scenes without the gull in them, on the editor's orders. She also wants a scene where the gull goes to the dentist. Not doing that one.

  4. Not a full pass, but I was reading back chapter 14 and found my detective walking through a door I'd bricked up in chapter 9. Then he looks out of a window that faces the wrong way. Continuity is clearly not my strength.

pass two is DONE. all 34 chapters, 7,900 words cut overall.

taking a week off from it now and then starting draft three

What this place is

The forum is free, the writing studio is the reason it exists

ChapterMuse is a desktop app for writing novels. Not a folder of documents and not a browser tab: one room holding the plan, the cast, the places, the research, the draft, the revision history and the finished files, all of it on your own computer. Rename a character in chapter one and the profiles, the prose and the exports follow.

It runs on Windows and macOS, works with the network off, and is bought once rather than rented: £24, £36 or £48 for a lifetime licence. AI runs on credits you only buy if you use them.

Your book is a file on your own machine. Nothing to renew, no outage that can reach your draft, and it still opens if we disappear.

30 days, everything unlocked, no card.
