Has everyone got the heating on yet?

MMargaret Holloway3 days ago11 replies2

It was freezing in Harrogate this morning. There was frost on the car when I went out with the dog. I'm sitting here in two cardigans trying not to put the heating on before the clocks go back, out of sheer stubbornness.

Has everyone else given in?

Gareth never let me put it on before the clocks went back either. I put it on yesterday afternoon and I'm still feeling guilty about it.
    God bless, Ruth

1st of October in our house. Not a day before. That's my wife's rule, not mine.

Log burner went on last week. One good thing about being a joiner, I've got enough offcuts to last me till Christmas.

We've got a smart thermostat and my dad keeps turning it down from his phone at their house. I've changed the password twice.

the heating in halls is on full and you can't turn it down, so everyone has their windows open. i don't think that's how it's meant to work

the warehouse doesn't have heating. 4 layers and a beanie and you're grand

  10. In Poland we put the heating on when it is cold. In England people wait until they cannot feel their hands, and then wait a week more. Sixteen years here and I still don't understand it.

  11. Tomasz is quite right. I gave in last night and put it on for an hour. The dog went and lay in front of the radiator and wouldn't move for the rest of the evening.

What this place is

The forum is free, the writing studio is the reason it exists

ChapterMuse is a desktop app for writing novels. Not a folder of documents and not a browser tab: one room holding the plan, the cast, the places, the research, the draft, the revision history and the finished files, all of it on your own computer. Rename a character in chapter one and the profiles, the prose and the exports follow.

It runs on Windows and macOS, works with the network off, and is bought once rather than rented: £24, £36 or £48 for a lifetime licence. AI runs on credits you only buy if you use them.

Your book is a file on your own machine. Nothing to renew, no outage that can reach your draft, and it still opens if we disappear.
