What is a "snapshot", and have I made any?

   hi maggie, welcome!! good news: you've been making them without knowing. the app takes snapshots of each chapter by itself while you write, when you switch chapters and after you stop typing for a bit

   the little clock is Chapter History (Ctrl H does it too). it's safe to press, promise. it opens your old versions on a timeline down the right, next to your page, and looking at an old one doesn't change anything. it only replaces your chapter if you click Restore and then say yes to the box that pops up

   and even then it snapshots what you've got first, so trying it can't lose you anything

   Adding one thing to @jordanwritesthings's answer: you can also take one yourself, which is handy before you do something drastic to a chapter. There's a camera button for it, and you can give that version a name, like 'before I killed the vicar', so it's easy to spot later.

   If a version really matters, pin it. Pinned ones are kept forever; the automatic ones get tidied away over time.

   Thank you both so much. I pressed the clock and there were already lots of little marks on the line. I felt quite emotional, after the spring.

   I have named one 'before the vicar', Priya, although in my book it is the churchwarden who dies.
